MERLIN ACADEMY CAT C (RIGID) TRAINING
Vehicles over 3,500kg  (with a trailer up to 750kg)

The combined impact of an ageing professional hgv driver workforce and the lack of new entrants coming through to replace those who leave the sector, has resulted in a well documented driver shortage. A significant contributing factor to the lack of new entrants is the cost of licence acquisition. Merlin Academy’s train now, pay later finance options provide an entry path for candidates looking to start their career in logistics with CAT C (Rigid) training.

Adrian Teale, Class 2 driver at Knights of Old Group, passed his CAT C (Rigid) and CPC Module 4 with Merlin Academy, on the same day. On Merlin, Adrian said, "Thank you to everyone at Merlin for all the training and support you provided. Amazing team of trainers and would highly recommend anyone looking to pass to use Merlin.

With an overall Merlin Academy first time pass rate of 87.2%, the Q4 2016 large goods vehicle gross weekly pay of £500 is achievable within 5 days for Cat C (rigid) drivers looking to upskill to Cat C+E (Artic) drivers.

Brian Coles CAT C+E (Artic) driver, Knights of Old, "I did my Rigid training with Merlin Academy last year and then passed my Artic training recently. The Merlin team are brilliant and very supportive and I am now in full time employment with The Knights of Old Group”

Martin Dines CAT C+E (Artic) driver, Merlin People, " I started with Merlin Academy last April, I’d always wanted to be a lorry driver, like my Father and older Brother. I passed my Rigid, as an apprentice, in August, then was one of five picked to do their Artic training, which I passed first time. I now work as a Merlin People driver. I cannot fault the Merlin team, they’ve helped me achieve my goal of becoming a professional lorry driver.”

MERLIN ACADEMY APPRENTICESHIPS
Hiring apprentices is a productive and effective way for businesses to grow their own talent by developing a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.

With the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy, many employers are looking for ways to maximise the return on their Levy. The Apprenticeship Levy came into force on 6th April 2017. Under the scheme, firms with a payroll of more than £3m are required to contribute the equivalent of 0.5% of their payroll into a pot from which apprenticeships are then funded.

Each employer will have a levy allowance of £15,000, this is not a cash payment. It works in a similar way to personal tax allowance and cannot be used to purchase apprenticeship training. The Apprenticeship Levy, if not spent, is taken back from employers after 24 months.
Merlin Academy are listed on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers as a government approved main training provider of apprenticeships.
